The Art of Wedding Content Creation: The Pros, Cons, and the Unique Role of Photographers

January 28th, 2025

Weddings are magical events, filled with moments of joy, tears of happiness, and unforgettable memories. Any couple planning their wedding will be seeking to capture these moments to remember for years to come. Traditionally, it's always been wedding photographers who have been trusted with this important task - but now that we are in the age of sophisticated technology, couples have more choice than ever on how to remember their beautiful day.

Recently, I've seen a surge of couples asking in online wedding planning forums what exactly are the differences between photographers, videographers and content creators. It's important to know that they each have an important - but uniquely different- role to play in your wedding day. So let's break it down.

Wedding Photographers

Once upon a time wedding photographers were there to take a couple of bridal photos, one or two shots of the ceremony and endless family group photos. Even now, many couples dread the idea of their entire drinks reception being dedicated to staged, cheesy photos. That's simply not the case anymore.

Every photographer will have their own style and approach, and there's certainly such a variety to choose from that you'll find one that vibes with you. The most popular type of wedding photography out there right now is the candid, documentary style. That means there's considerably less time spent organising posed, rigid photos and more time is invested in capturing your day holistically. Photographers will blend into the background and allow your day to unfold naturally - their job is to record the events as they happen, and be prepared to be in position for the important scenes.
